Informationen
After the 2005 miniature «Lines» for flute and piano based on the short poem by Werner Lutz «Immer wieder eine Linie ziehen, um darauf tanzen» («Always draw a line again to dance on it»), I again deal with the line in the present piece. What I find rather philosophical and playful in Werner Lutz has a more serious background for Paul Klee in «Nulla dies sine linea» (No day without a line) - a sentence by Pliny the Elder from the 35th book of his «Naturalis historia»: in his last years, which were marked by illness between 1937 and 1940, Klee drew particularly much. It is no coincidence that he wrote under his drawing no. 365 with the title «Addicted»: «Nulla dies sine linea».
The sentence may sound like a slogan of perseverance under his given life circumstances. Klee died in 1940 at the age of 61 in Muralto near Locarno. In my piece I have dealt with Klee's drawings of the last years and tried to transform his lines full of expressiveness, tension and depth into «sound lines». The piece is dedicated to Ule Troxler, the musician and art designer living in Locarno on his 60th birthday.
